Good Questions

Do hemp seed cookies get you high?

No. The hemp seeds in a chocolate chip cookie will not get you high. Hemp seeds are a food — like sunflower seeds or flax — and the hulled hemp seeds (often sold as "hemp hearts") used in cooking contain only trace amounts of THC, far too little to have any effect.

We get this question a lot, and it's a fair one. "Hemp" and "cannabis" sound like the same thing, so here's the plain-language difference — and what a hemp seed is actually doing in the Everyday, the organic chocolate chip cookie we bake here in Red Bank, NJ.

Hemp seeds are a food, not a drug

Hemp seeds come from the hemp plant, and you'll find them in the same grocery aisle as chia and flax. People stir them into smoothies, oatmeal, salads, and yes, cookies. They're sold as a regular food across the country. What they are not is a source of a high.

So why put them in a cookie at all?

Honestly? It started as a mom's idea for a little extra nutrition, and it accidentally made the cookie better — a subtle nuttiness under the chocolate, a richer, softer texture. Hemp seeds have been in every batch of the Everyday since. You can read the full story of how that happened on our origin-story post.

None of that turns a cookie into a health food. A cookie is still butter, sugar, chocolate, and joy, and it should be. The hemp seed just means ours shows up with a little something extra.
